Established by the department as a culmination of your work as a Writing and Publication major, the department portfolio attests to your development as a reader/writer.

The professional portfolio is an assemblage of documents directly related to your experience and skills as a writer, conveying concrete evidence of transferrable skills through past projects (or general appeal, if applying to graduate school or submitting a creative manuscript)

Following the model in Johnson-Sheehan's Writing Proposals (or a suitable alternative), the proposal will offer research, rationale, and plans for writing-based improvements to a specific target audience. Included in the research portion of the proposal will be an annotated bibliography of at least 10 viable sources. Annotations should include 5-7 sentences of summary and 5-7 sentences of application/analysis for each source.

The presentation will be offered in the semi-public forum at the end of the term as part of the Virtual English Department Showcase during exam week (2, 4 December, class time). Students will present 3-5 minutes on the proposal. Visual aids are expected.

Short-response writings ask you to engage concisely with the works we're reading and the materials related to your professional portfolio. Responses must be placed in your shared Google Drive folder by class time on the date they are to be discussed. Each response will count 3 points and should be at least one single-spaced page on a Google Doc unless otherwise noted.
